TO ALL PSYCHOLOGISTS AND OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONALS INTERESTED IN THE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY COURSE FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS

RE: COMMENCEMENT OF REGISTRATION FOR THE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY COURSE

I would like to thank you for your interest in this course and for your patience. The CPD accreditors have informed us that we can commence our course even though they are still busy dealing with a large backlog of applications, including ours.

I am happy to announce the commencement of registration for the course.

Before you register, please check the attached course outline in order to satisfy yourself that the course contents meet your needs and expectations.

In particular, I want to draw your attention to the fact that this is not a physiological psychology or neuropsychology course, similar to the courses most of us did at Honours or Master’s level. It is rather, a basic biological science course that covers some of the concepts underpinning physiological psychology and neuropsychology. The course is meant to provide the prerequisite knowledge for the other courses SACNA will be providing in future, namely psychopharmacology, neurology, applied psychophysiology, neuro-imaging, paediatric neuropsychology, and CNS rehabilitation. Participation in this course is not a guarantee for registration as a neuropsychologist – that is the prerogative of the Health Professions Council. No decision has been taken yet to run this course again in future.

I expect that many of us will find the first 5 chapters quite novel and challenging, but will, in due course, find the concepts intriguing and applicable to the theory and practice of psychology in general and neuropsychology in particular. I believe that this course will make all of us more “streetwise” in the health/ medical environments in which we operate.

Please also take note of the Ethics attachment.

The registration form is attached. Please direct all inquiries to do with payment to the treasurer and membership secretary as indicated on the form.

To give everybody the opportunity to register and to be set up on the anatomy and physiology Google group, formal teaching and learning will commence on 29.2.12
